About
Haslingfield Village Society
The society began life in 1981.
A constitution was written that remains largely unchanged to this day.
In summary the constitution is as follows.
To stimulate public interest in and care for the attractiveness of the Village and its environment.
To encourage the preservation, development and improvement of features of public amenity and historic interest.
To do all such things, practical and social, as may further these aims.
In keeping with the aims of the constitution, many different events and activities have been organised over the years.
Many will be familiar with the society’s annual New Year walk, and there have been dances, casino evenings, supper events, folk and musical evenings and film shows to name just a few. There have also been numerous events that involve the community, for example litter picks, ‘village tidy’ days, as well as involvement in numerous national celebrations such as the late Queen Elizabeth’s jubilees.
The mainstays of the society are monthly talks at the village hall, and organised outings to local, and not so local, destinations and theatre shows.
The restored Bakehouse on Wellhouse Meadow is the responsibility of the Society. Regular open days are held for viewing the Bakehouse and the historical artefacts it contains.
One of the remarkable assets of the society is the huge archive collection which grows steadily and requires constant attention to maintain its value. It contains a huge number of documents relating to the village and hundreds of historic photos. Some of these photos can be seen on the Gallery page.
The driving force behind these activities is Haslingfield Village Society committee who meet monthly to push forward the agenda. The importance of the committee cannot be understated. They are the Village Society’s engine with the villagers being the lubricating oil.
This website is under continuous development. In due course more examples of the rich history of the Village will be added.
